Join us for our November 4, 2026 “in-person” meeting at Santa Monica First United Methodist Church, 1008
11th Street, Santa Monica – doors open at 5:30, meeting begins at 6:00 pm. There is also a workshop the following
day, November 5, 2026 (same location), 10:00 – 4:00 pm.
Guests are welcome at our meeting. The normal guest fee of $5 will be waived if you are registered for the workshop.
Live and In-Person Quilted Coat Lecture
Enjoy this informative lecture on sewing quilted coats. We will go in depth on the pattern, how to take measurements for the best fit, go over several different finishing methods, and talk about adding collars and hoods. Get inspired with plenty of ideas for customization—and one of the best (and most fun!) parts of this in-person lecture is the opportunity to try on coats in the whole range of sizes. After the lecture there is plenty of time for guests to try on coats, ask questions, and confirm that perfect fit.
Quilted Coat Workshop - Live and In-Person
Now the real fun begins! In this 6 hour workshop we’ll finish quilted back panels, trace and cut pattern pieces, and dive into coat construction. I’ll do live demos on custom pattern adjustments, how to add pockets with binding, collars, and hoods, plus instruction for sewing the tricky parts with confidence.
Throughout it all, Diana offers plenty of guidance and encouragement so you can walk away with a finished or near-finished coat that is a clear expression of your personal quilting style.
One of the benefits of the In-Person Workshop is access to pre-cut pattern templates made from sturdy oak tag paper. These save time during the workshop and let you keep your own set of patterns to use for your next coat!

The workshop fee is $45 for SMQG members and $55 for non-members. In addition, there is a charge of $30 for the coat pattern. That fee is payable to the teacher, Diana Karna, at the workshop.
To register for the workshop, send your check (payable to SMQG) today to Pam Overton. Contact Pam if you need the address. Upon payment receipt the supply list will be sent to you.
