SMQG placemats.12.2011 003
Guild members have made nearly 200 place mats for the local MEALS ON WHEELS. The beautifully varied mats were presented to Meals on Wheels for the New Year 2012.

Santa Monica Quilt Guild members donate used eye glasses to the local LIONS CUB. The Lions try to match vision patients in the immediate area to the prescription lenses in the frames. If they can’t, the frames are reused here and abroad.

Good eyesight is something we quilters really value!

As a Holiday Project Santa Monica Quilt Guild collected new children’s books to donate to the VENICE FAMILY CLINIC. Children who are patients at the clinic are periodically given the gift of a new book as they leave their appointments.

More that eighty books were collected at the Guild Holiday Pot Luck Supper on December 7, 2011.

Santa Monica Quilt Guild members are working to make quilts for WOUNDED WARRIORS. The quilts will be shipped to combat hospitals in Iraq and Afghanistan and given to soldiers in Intensive Care Units. Arlene Zobrist recently spoke to our guild and inspired us to become involved with this worthwhile project. A guild sewing evening will take place in March to complete these quilts.

Here is an example of a Wounded Warrior quilt. The pattern, by Sylvia Davis, is
CHECKERS SCRAP QUILT. Click here for the Checkers Quilt pattern, or use a pattern of your choice.

Santa Monica Quilt Guild members also continue to make and donate quilts to the PAT OF LOVE project for St. John's Hospital.

  • Projects for 2010 - 2011 “Talent, Treasure, Time”
As we wind down the 2010-2011 Guild year, we wish to thank all members for their support and generous donations of time, talent and loose change.
We have made a difference in the lives of battered women, the elderly, and children at risk with the
used cell phones we collected.
We emptied our pockets, coin purses, and even cleaned out the coins stuck between our cushions to raise nearly
$500 for “Hope House,” giving orphaned children in Uganda, Africa the chance to improve their lives.
We made over
100 pillowcases for Children’s Hospital’s new wing with the guidance of, and in honor of ConKerr Cancer Los Angeles.
We collected
over 50 dresses made with pillowcases to Dress a Girl Around the World and added approximately 20 prayer dolls with this donation. HOPE 4 WOMEN INTERNATIONAL will be very pleased with our efforts and donations.
We collected for the holidays,
30 backpacks filled with supplies and clothing for emergency placement foster children. Gift cards were also collected to help buy diapers and other needed supplies. This sure made a difference in the lives of the children at risk from the South Bay Dept. of Children Services.
We made the lives of cancer battling patients at St. John’s Hospital a bit more comfortable with beautiful
PAT OF LOVE QUILTS.
We, all of SMQG, made a difference in so many lives. We are proud to have been a part of the history of what SMQG stands for.
