FEBRUARY 2005
THREE DIMENSIONAL PINWHEELS
The Technique for this month is for a 3 Dimensional Pinwheel. It looks so cute for a baby quilt, or the method can be used in other quilts and garments. To make Prairie Points the method is the same.
Because all our blocks in the TECHNIQUE OF THE MONTH finish to 8", The measurements below are for that size. It’s so simple though, it would be fun to reduce it by half and make 4 little pinwheels in each block.
Cut 4 squares for the background each 4 ½" and 4 squares for the pinwheel blades also 4 ½". (Whatever size you want your background, cut your blades the same size.) Now fold each blade piece in half, wrong sides together, and fold again on dashed lines shown. Lightly press with iron or finger. Pin (or baste) your blade on the background block, with raw edges even. Sew your 4 blade blocks together as in picture, taking care to catch blade edge and leave points free. Don’t iron your block too much, you want your blades to be free. Easy, huh?

Don’t forget to bring your (labeled) block to the February meeting. There will be some samples and it will be fun to see what you do with these pinwheels.
